THE POSITION

• Reports to: Water and Wastewater Maintenance Superintendent
• This job is classified as Safety Sensitive
• Responsible for the execution of Water Plant operations to produce clean water as efficiently and economically as possible. This will be done by monitoring the SCADA system, by sampling water within the Water Plant, and by physically checking all pumps and processes while staying in compliance of safety rules. Monitors Plant II (remote location); Also monitors Wastewater Treatment Plant and West Lift Station on night shifts, weekends, and holidays. When not providing coverage for operator’s other duties will include general maintenance outlined but not limited to duties below.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Relief Operator

• Responsible for operator day shift coverage (6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) each Thursday.
• Provide coverage during other operator’s absences due to sick leave and annual leave.
• Maintain a continuing check on the proper and efficient operation at the Water Plant Facility and remotely at Plant II by monitoring conditions, meters and gauges.
• Perform lab analyses and sampling as needed.
• Record operational data, chemical deliveries and communicate issues or concerns to the next operator on shift.

Maintenance

• Assist Water Plant Maintenance staff by performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
• Maintains all Water Plant and Plant II on-line water analysis instruments.
• Maintains monthly checks of fire extinguishers and Risk Management Plan alarms.
• Ability to read water meters on a monthly basis. Verify readings in cases where consumption appears to be abnormal and record possible reasons for fluctuations.
• On call to respond to emergencies at the Water Plant and Plant II.
• Clean and maintain tanks, filter beds, and other work areas as needed.
• Inspect equipment or monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions.
• Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusion or approaches to problems.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS/PROFILE

EDUCATION – H.S. of GED; Any college is a plus.

• Prefer Valid Class A OKDEQ water operator license, but will consider Valid Class B OKDEQ water operator license with adequate experience. In specific circumstances a operator holding a Valid Class C OKDEQ water operator license could be considered with the ability to achieve a Class B license within 18 months.
• Valid Class C OKDEQ water operator lab license.
• Requires enrollment and completion of 40-hour Hazwoper training course with 8-hr renewals each year.
• Valid Class D Oklahoma Driver License

EXPERIENCE – A minimum of 5 years in maintenance type job or Water Plant operations.

• Knowledge of machines, tools, including designs, uses, repairs and maintenance.
• Prefer experience with municipal or Water Plant operations.

• Team Player – Willingness to roll up sleeves and contribute as a team leader or team member, depending on the requirements of the situation.
• Physical Duties – Must be able to lift 50 pounds and can work in confined areas in various weather conditions. Ability to climb stairs and ladders and pass a fit test for SBCA use.
• Dependability - Requires being reliable, responsible and dependable. Requires on call duties when emergency situations arise after hours and on weekends.
• Safety – Abide by safety practices while operating machinery, contact with dangerous chemicals, and performing tasks.
• Proactive – Ability to anticipate needs and challenges. Offer input and provide solutions for various improvements.
• Computer Proficiency – Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and SCADA.
