The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for 1) the integrity of all plant assets (rotating and static equipment), 2) monitoring integrity operating windows, 3) developing a good working knowledge of degradation mechanisms, 4) providing risk expertise for assessing renewal and replacement options, 5) support of business activities, 6) continuously looking for improvement opportunities, and 7) fostering an atmosphere of continuous improvement to drive increased reliability and gained efficiencies. This position reports into the Maintenance Manager and works with multiple levels at the site to ensure cooperation and coordination of all departments to meet production requirements. This includes the following:

  • Works with teams to develop inspection and maintenance plans for static equipment that target damage mechanisms based on criticality,
  • Design preventative maintenance tasks (PM) for rotating equipment that target failure modes based on criticality,
  • Utilizes root cause analysis to eliminate bad actors,
  • Works closely with the Millwright and Maintenance technicians to review and correct findings from root cause analysis and from monitoring of rotating equipment, ex. from vibration or oil analysis
  • Leads annual audits for optimization,
  • Works with teams to identify capitals needs related to asset integrity and in long term capital planning,
  • Understands the history and current condition of static equipment,
  • Participates in the development of best practices to ensure asset integrity,
  • Coordinates and participates in inspections of static equipment,
  • Leads the response to leaks/failures related to all static equipment,
  • Lead or participate in scoping and implementation of small to medium sized capital projects,
  • Participates in turnaround scope challenge,
  • Performs inspections during the turnaround,
  • Evaluates found work and assesses criticality of unexpected findings during the turnaround, and,
  • Communicates with the insurance company regarding Asset Integrity (inspection and maintenance needs) as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing facility, preferred
  • Root cause analysis training is desirable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to gather, analyze and draw well-reasoned conclusions
  • Proven ability to influence actions and mindsets
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and strong time management skills
