Summary of position

This position monitors field equipment connected to Connect remote monitoring. This position requires an experienced HVAC technician who can interpret readings via the Connect platform, compare those readings to submitted design criteria, and interpret the health of the equipment by comparing and contrasting the data. This position requires a technician with sufficient reading, writing, grammar, and communication skills so that the technician can populate reports and convey those reports to customers in an easy-to-understand format.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Read & understand the paperwork associated with the design of equipment.
  • Train others on Connect and its functions.
  • Complete a quality check of field Connect connections and report discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and data systems related to Connect field installations.
  • Read, interpret, and understand electrical, piping, and unit schematics.
  • Understand field systems in order to interpret field data.
  • Prepare reports based on Connect field data using Microsoft applications.
  • Contribute to team effort by working with others and accomplishing related functions as needed.
  • Maintain files, folders, and logs of field data.
  • Understand RAE equipment including items such as hot gas bypass, flood control, air damper operation, reheat systems, hot gas defrost, electric defrost, air defrost, Title 24 fan control, and any other options installed on field equipment.
  • Understand how different controls work, and how they interface with Connect.
  • Understand, interpret, and create graphs and charts to convey easy to understand information.
  • Understand excel formulas and be able to apply those as needed to interpret raw data from the Connect system.
  • Discuss findings with other departments, their own department, and customers as needed to troubleshoot and resolve field issues found via Connect.
  • Complete any task as assigned by the supervisor as needed.
  • Charge time accurately in time & attendance system on the computer to ensure accurate labor distribution and payroll.
  • Comply with government regulations, laws, company policies, and company procedures.
  • Attend work as required.
  • Arrive for work on time.
  • Follow manufacturing instructions, work independently without constant supervision, be self-motivated, and complete job assignments on time.
  • Care for tools and equipment. Advise supervisors, managers, and/or maintenance of equipment that is not working correctly.
  • Clean work area as required.

Desired qualifications

Education & Experience: HVAC Associates degree (two-year college or technical school), HVAC certificate, or equivalent life experience in the HVAC field. 5+ years’ experience troubleshooting and operating HVACR equipment including split systems, chillers, and air handling equipment.

Skills: Effective communications skills, good listening skills, ability to read and comprehend drawings and written instructions, basic mathematical and higher-level computer skills, monitoring/assessing the performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations, to make improvements, or take corrective action. Good people skills to work in teams and with others in the organization and in the field. Must know about HVACR equipment. Mechanical aptitude is a preferred to understand how systems operate.

Certificates, Licenses, or training: Valid Driver's License, on-site training

Interaction with others

Answers to the Service Manager. Must be able to accurately receive, understand and follow instructions from manager or supervisor. The employee must be able to work with all employees of the RAE team and show a spirit of cooperation with others in the organization. To accomplish this teamwork, the employee must get along well with coworkers and be willing to ask and answer questions as needed.

Working environment

Work is performed in the service department of an industrial production area for refrigeration and HVAC equipment manufacturers. The majority of the work is computer based in an office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical power, and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually low but moderate in some areas. Possible stress caused by the pressure of meeting deadlines and handling intense workload.

Other Physical Requirements: Sustained use of eyesight for functions such as visual inspection, reading, measuring, and operating computer systems, along with the ability to see objects and detect motion at wide angles (peripheral vision) to maintain employee safety, ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety glasses, hearing protection). Color vision required.
