summary of position

Tests fabricated coils for defects and deviations from design specifications. May use precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment to detect leaks or deficiencies in coil pressure.

Essential functions

  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Discard or reject products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, and testing procedures; includes reading engineering drawings and instructions, reading bill of material, and reading manufacturing instructions to ensure accuracy and quality of product.
  • Test coils for conformance to specifications detecting and repairing leaks found during pressure testing.
  • Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems.
  • Discuss test results with those responsible for products and recommend necessary corrective actions.
  • Read dials to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels.
  • Repair equipment to correct defects found during inspections as needed.
  • Stack and arrange tested products for further processing, shipping, or packaging and transport products to other work stations as necessary.
  • Contribute to team effort by working with others and accomplishing related functions as needed.
  • Complete any task as assigned by supervisor as needed.
  • Comply with government regulations, laws, company policies and company procedures.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Attend work as required.
  • Charge time accurately in time and attendance system on computer to ensure accurate labor distribution and payroll.
  • Follow manufacturing instructions, work by oneself without constant supervision, be self-motivated and complete job assignments on time.
  • Care for tools and equipment. Advise maintenance of equipment that is not working properly.
  • Clean work area as required.

Desired qualifications

Education & Experience: A high school level of education is preferred for this position in order to continue upward advancement in the company. The employee must be able to understand directions from superiors.

Skills: Effective communications skills, good listening skills, ability to read and comprehend written instructions, basic mathematical skills, including ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch, ability to control operations of equipment or system, monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals or organization to make improvements or take corrective action, good people skills in order to work in teams with others in the organization, solder.

Certificates, licenses or training: on-site training, forklift license

1 – Beginning level coil testers meets minimal quality standards, needs more time to complete work than estimated for job

2 – Proficient level coil testers meets quality standards, able to complete work within estimated hours for job

3 – Proficient level coil testers meets quality standards, able to complete work in less time than estimated for job

Interaction with others

Answers to the Coil Shop Supervisor. Must be able to accurately receive, understand & follow instructions from supervisor/lead. It is essential that the employee be able to work with all employees of the RAE team and show a spirit of cooperation with others in the organization. To accomplish this teamwork, it is important that the employee be able to get along well with coworkers and be willing to ask and to answer questions as needed.

working environment

Work is performed in an industrial production area for a manufacturer of refrigeration and HVAC equipment. The employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is high in some areas. Exposed to extreme temperatures in both winter and summer. Possible stress caused by the pressure of meeting deadlines and product quality standards. Seasonal variations in hours worked based on production demands.
